‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’

When God tests you it is never to destroy you. When he removes something in your possession it is only in order to empty your hands for an even greater gift.

– Ibn al-Qayyim.

‘Everything that hurts a believer is a calamity. Tests are like gold. You test gold in fire to test if its real, test its substance. That is the true nature of calamities to test you. Allah knows your state before and after the test. Your test is for you to learn and others around you. Most of our actions are reactions – which we need to learn to control’.

– Shaykh Muhammed al-Yaqoubi — ‘Revelation of the Unseen’.

‘The tree does not withdraw its shade from the woodcutter. So love even those you hurt you. They’ll realise your worth someday.’
